About Us

Our mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease

The American Lung Association is the leading organization in the Northeast working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

As America’s oldest voluntary health organization, founded in 1904, we began our fight dedicated to combating tuberculosis (TB), the most dreaded disease at the time. As TB was brought under control, the focus expanded to all lung diseases including asthma, tobacco control and environmental health issues. Today, the focus is on healthy lungs and healthy air.

The American Lung Association in the Northeast serves Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.  With your generous support, the American Lung Association is Fighting for Air through research, education and advocacy.

Financial

At the American Lung Association we are very proud of our fiscal responsibility. Here in the Northeast, 85 cents of every dollar donated supports our mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. Throughout our history, the American Lung Association has been a steadfast steward of public contributions. Without the help of our constituents, we would not be able to make the progress that we do in the fight for air. Donors can be assured that we appreciate each and every gift. Contributions are always used to support our mission. Please take a moment to view our financial breakdown to learn where the money goes.

We also have our Record Retention Policy available to be viewed.
