About the Ride

2012 Trek Across Maine - The Basics

Date: June 15 - 17, 2012

Start Location: Sunday River Ski Resort - Newry, ME             

Finish Location: Steamboat Landing - Belfast, ME

Registration: $55 registration fee (non-refundable & non-transferable). Registration fee does not count toward fundraising minimum.

Fundraising: $500 per person ($400 for ages 7 - 17)

Age Limit: 7 years and up. Children between the ages of 7 - 12 must ride a tandem or tag-a-long bike with adult guardian. ALL children under 18 years must have an adult guardian (limit three children per adult).

2012 Route & Available Accommodations Information

The Regular Route:

  • Day 1: Sunday River to UMF (approx. 60 mi)
  • Day 2: UMF to Colby College (approx. 60 mi)
  • Day 3: Colby College to Belfast (approx. 60 mi)

Available Accommodations:

  • Camping - Trekkers are required to provide their own tent and equipment. Free space available to camp at UMF and Colby College. No pop up campers or RV's permitted.
  • Gym/Fieldhouse - Trekkers provide their own sleeping bag/mat and claim an area on the floor of the gym or fieldhouse at UMF and Colby College. 
  • Other Arrangements / Off Campus - Trekkers have the option to make their own sleeping arrangements off campus. Shuttle service available to some local motels in both Farmington and Waterville.

Colby College Loop Route – limited to 200 riders:

  • Day 1: Sunday River to UMF (approx. 60mi)
    Colby Loop trekkers will be shuttled by bus to Colby to sleep.
  • Day 2: Colby Loop Route around Waterville area (approx. 44 mi)
  • Day 3: Colby College to Belfast (approx. 60mi)

Available Accommodations:

  • Dorm - Colby Loop trekkers will sleep in the same dorm room at Colby College on both Friday and Saturday night
  • Camping - Trekkers are required to provide their own tent and equipment. No pop up campers or RV's permitted.
  • Other Arrangements / Off Campus - Trekkers have the option to make their own sleeping arrangements off campus. No shuttle service will be provided until Saturday afternoon.

*Although the routes are different on Day 2; on Days 1 & 3, everyone rides together.
