The Emily Bissell Heritage Society

The Emily Bissell Heritage Society was created to recognize those supporters who have remembered the American Lung Association in their estate plans. We would greatly appreciate your joining this special group and helping us keep our vision alive for a world free of lung disease.

Emily Bissell created the first Christmas Seal in 1907 as a way to raise the $300 needed to keep her cousin's TB sanatorium open so the patients would not be sent home to die or spread the disease to other people. With the endorsement of President Theodore Roosevelt, Emily raised $3,000 that holiday season for the fight against TB. Consequently, she devoted the rest of her life to the anti-tuberculosis movement

Special Bequest Language

The official bequest language for the American Lung Association is:

"I, [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to the American Lung Association of the Midland States, with corporate offices at 1950 Arlingate Lane, Columbus OH 43228, [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion and purpose deems appropriate."

If you prefer to remain anonymous, your gift will be kept completely confidential. But at the same time, recognition of your gift can encourage others to do the same. Whatever the case, we will honor your wishes, because we appreciate your support immensely.
