Help Wanted
Help is needed for many of our programs and activities as listed below. If you would like to help and become a "lung champion" for the American Lung Association of the Midland States, simply complete the Volunteer Inquiry Form. You may also send any additional comments about your specific interests in helping to Midland@MidlandLung.org.
This "Help Wanted" section will be updated as other programs and events require volunteer assistance.
Leadership Opportunity
Have you ever wanted to serve on a non-profit board for young professionals or know someone who does? Learn more about opportunities with the American Lung Association in Kentucky and Ohio.
Advocacy Volunteers
We are looking for people who are interested in attending hearings, organizing grassroots, participating in meetings, and contacting legislators by mail, phone and in person. We have a special need for people who have existing relationships with lawmakers who are impacted by lung disease and would be willing to share their story.
We also need volunteers who have demonstrated skills in writing, media relations, design, event organization and other public relations duties.
Health Fair Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to represent the American Lung Association at local health fairs.
Special Event Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with the many functions of a special events – from pre-event planning, securing raffle or auction items, brochure distribution, ticket sales, set-up/tear-down, registration, manning a booth or water stop, route monitor, food server, photographer, clowns, musicians, serving on planning committees

Office Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to answer phones, prepare mailings, data entry, event preparation, filing, filling requests for educational materials, and for other general office duties.
Volunteer Marketing Intern
The American Lung Association is looking for energetic interns who can work a flexible schedule (approximately 5-15 hours a week), and who enjoy making a difference. We are willing to work with any level college student. Majors which would best fit the internship include: Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Non-Profit Management, but we are open to others who may be interested in non-profit or service industries. The internship is not paid, however there are many opportunities to receive excellent practical experience, portfolio samples, and letters of recommendation.
5 to 15 hours per week during normal business hours.
Primary Duties
- Intern duties may vary depending on candidate's interests and skills, but may include the following:
- Assist with promotions for specific events and programs, including brainstorming creative marketing ideas, researching news hooks, or identifying story leads and interview contacts
- Write and help design or produce copy various marketing and communications materials, such as brochures, press releases, feature stories, newsletter articles, or Power Point presentations
- Take responsibility for a variety of social media marketing initiatives or campaigns, such as Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, and blog tracking and input
- Provide additional assistance to the Marketing team as needed.
Specific Qualifications
- Have an interest and background in marketing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Ability to work in a deadline sensitive environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Be reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic.
