Lori Arrowood
My family and I lost the most important part of our family
on May 24, 2010. This is the day that my
mom, Rebecca “Becky” Arrowood, lost her battle with Small Cell Lung Cancer, and
since that day, our family has never been the same. Mom was a fighter all her life. She battled through a tough divorce, fought
the long, exhausting days at the rubber parts factory where she worked for over
25 years, and worked hard to raise 3 kids by herself. She was the toughest of tough, and she taught
us all how to be great people and to work hard for the things we want in
life. Shortly after mom was diagnosed, I
heard about the ALA’s Lung Walk, now the Fight for Air Walk, and realized that
this was a way for me to fight my own battle against Lung Cancer. In just a few weeks, I raised over $200 for
my first ever Lung Walk on May 22, 2010.
We wore shirts that expressed our love and support for Mom, and a sign
along walk path told all who we were fighting for. Just two short days later, Mom passed away. She was 45 years old. Each year, we walk in honor of her and raise
money to find a cure. In 2011, we raised
$571, and in 2012, we’re aiming to raise $1000.
We are “Breathin’ for Becky” and will continue to do walk for my mom
until the Fight for Air is won.
