Living here in Pittsburgh all of my life, I really am finally realizing why I had such bad asthma as a child. Now I am an adult with asthma and I am more in tune to how I feel and where I feel better.
I have recently been visiting the southern beaches on the eastern seaboard. Myrtle, Hilton Head, Nags Head, Ocracoke Island, and I have to tell you I want to move as soon as possible. I hardly needed to use my inhaler when in the clean, salty air. My lungs felt like feathers compared to bricks when at home.
It's very sad that I have to suffer like I do in the town I was born. Of course, it was a lot worse back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and even early 90's but knowing now how we are graded for particulates in the air, I am convinced to move south.
Now approaching 50 years young, we are finally ready to move to cleaner air. I hope the damage to our lungs is reversible.
