I read that we are under an Ozone Alert here in Deer Park/Houston. It is no wonder! I called Harris County Pollution Control last night (again) to report the local oil company for flaring.

Giant flames were shooting out of two stacks last night. The flaring was so bright that it seemed like daylight. Since there was NO wind, all of this pollution just settles over our city. This is not a onetime thing; it happens almost every holiday when pollution offices are closed. Imagine that...

When the chemical plants have to flare (because something has happened and they don't want the plant to blow up), they are required to call and report the incident/accident for which they are fined. I WAS able to contact Pollution Control at 11:00 PM last night. They were surprised, because the oil company hadn't reported the issue.

I believe this is one BIG reason that we have an ozone watch in place. I will continue to make this call every time this happens. I don't know if it helps, but I can't sit by and do nothing.
