Marilyn Glassberg, MD, Professor of Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is a leading expert in rare lung diseases. After completing her undergraduate studies at Wellesley College and initial research training with Drs. Judah Folkman and Bruce Zetter at Harvard Medical School, she completed her medical degree and postgraduate training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals.

Dr. Glassberg studies and treats interstitial lung disease – ailments in which air sacs thicken and limit gas exchange – most notably all forms of pulmonary fibrosis and lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a rare disease affecting young women. As a result of Dr. Glassberg's dedication to patient care and research, in 2010, the University of Miami Health System-UHealth was selected to be one of only 15 sites in the country to open a clinic for patients with LAM. She was a member of the NIH IPFnet and her center is a National Center of Excellence for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Dr. Glassberg runs a basic science research lab in collaboration with Dr. Sharon Elliot, Professor of Surgery, where they have completed and published seminal studies on the mechanisms of cell-based therapy in fibrotic lung diseases. Dr. Glassberg recently completed the first in man study of intravenously delivered bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
