National Vice President, Research & Scientific Affairs

Susan Rappaport, MPH is the Vice President for Research and Scientific Affairs at the national office of the American Lung Association. Rappaport oversees the nationwide implementation of the American Lung Association Research Program, which funds research designed to expand our understanding of the mechanisms of lung disease, discover improved treatments and reduce the burden of lung disease.

This program currently includes the organization's patient-centered research program, the Airways Clinical Research Centers, and the Awards and Grants Program. Rappaport also supervises the collection and analysis of  data on lung disease and related risk factors, including incidence, prevalence, and provides technical assistance to lung association staff on lung disease epidemiology and demographics. She is a graduate of Cornell University and received her MPH from Columbia University. She is a member of the American Public Health Association and the Society for Epidemiologic Research.
