American Lung Association Mourns Passing of Kathryn Joosten

(June 4, 2012)

The American Lung Association mourns the recent passing of Kathryn Joosten, Emmy-award winning actress best known for her role on ABC’s Desperate Housewives.

Joosten, who served as the Lung Association’s 2010 Christmas Seals® Celebrity Chairperson, fought bravely in her struggle with lung cancer for many years but finally succumbed to the disease on June 2, 2012.

Lung cancer is the second-most commonly diagnosed cancer in both men and women. However it is still the most common cause of cancer death. An estimated 160,340 Americans were expected to die from lung cancer in 2012, accounting for approximately 28 percent of all cancer deaths.

“Kathryn Joosten was an enthusiastic advocate for American Lung Association and our more than century-old Christmas Seals Campaign,” said Charles D. Connor, President and CEO of the American Lung Association. “We join her fans in admiring her bravery and especially her commitment to raising awareness of lung cancer.”
