The American Lung Association has a great opportunity for a Manager, Reality Check to join our incredible team in the Northeast Region.  Working as a member of the Health Education and Programs Team you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission:  to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education, and advocacy. 

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects related to the Reality Check Youth Program in Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates Counties. This includes developing relationships with youth serving organizations throughout the four-county catchment area, recruiting, training, and retaining a core group of youth in each county, attending all Reality Check state/regional trainings and events, and attending all staff trainings/meetings as required by the grant.  This is a grant-funded position.


  • Recruit and train a core group of youth leaders to implement education campaign on the effects of retail tobacco marketing on youth tobacco use, participate in activities to reduce tobacco imagery and presence in youth-rated movies and on social media.
  • Mobilize community and youth-related organizations to support initiatives.
  • Develop and engage community members and leaders to educate and advance the initiative.
  • Engage youth in events to create awareness and support for initiative.
  • Engage youth in educating local leaders and state legislators.
  • Hold youth events and work with partners to solicit media attention on tobacco free initiatives.
  • Train youth leaders and participate in annual three day statewide youth summit and all state/regional trainings.
  • Establish relationships with media sources to increase awareness and build support from the community.
  • Achievement of all objectives as stated in work plan.
  • Together with community engagement staff, plan and organize required local educational events.
  • Together with statewide partners, plan and organize statewide trainings and events including youth participation in Legislative Action Day and youth participation in annual statewide youth summit.


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, health, social work or other relevant field.
  • At least two years’ experience working with youth in a community setting.
  • Key Competencies: strong leadership; self-starter, goal and action-oriented, attention to detail, effective facilitation, good presentation and communication skills, creative, excellent planning/organizational skills, cooperative team player.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of youth and adults.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications.
  • Physical requirements include sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and own reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required.  Must have a valid Driver’s license.
