Responsibilities:

Responsible for leading the creation and implementation of a synergistic and cross functional fundraising strategy that will enable the organization to maximize opportunities from giving revenue streams nationwide. The National VP of Development will be a leader in securing corporate and individual donor support through a collaborative model between the national office and its charter associations to grow significant new revenue and develop new donors of all types.

Incorporate new business development on a national scale with vision and an approach of collaboration and team work with American Lung Association chartered associations and their fellow national office employees. Provide oversight for the content and production of national signature fundraising events and secure corporate support for the American Lung Association’s strategic cause campaign, signature events, and signature&nbsp programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Corporate Relations Strategy: Oversee all strategy and activities related to securing support for the American Lung Association’s mission including the strategic cause campaign, signature events and signature programs through corporate partnerships. Strategically manage and drive Lung Association corporate and foundation revenue funding model and tracking of funding to ensure transparency and renewals in all external funding relationships. Develop leads for new corporate funding partners via involvement in industry and association meetings, outreach to new audiences, working with charter leads and current relationships, and monitoring of business and scientific landscape. Ensure that helpful and collaborative communication is provided to charters when changes within any particular company or foundation will be crucial to successful local relationships and/or funding.
  • Lead Individual Giving Strategy: Establish and coordinate a planned giving lead generation program working closely with the chartered associations. Develop and execute a plan to expand annual fund efforts and to build the pipeline of prospective individual gift prospects. Design and launch a collaborative movement-and development strategy working with chartered associations.
  • Lead and Support National Signature Events: Provide strategic direction and support for the nationwide signature events by establishing best practices to enhance utilization online fundraising, event execution, and media outreach to meet fundraising goals. Secure national corporate sponsors for the American Lung Association Fight For Air Climbs, I Love Lungs, and Signature Walk programs. Work with VP of Marketing and Branding to develop signature event collateral materials, national branding platform and donor communication practices that will maximize revenue.
  • Lead/Manage/Collaborate and Supervises: Hire, train, and supervise through managed growth a very successful high functioning team of corporate relations directors who are revenue producers. Act as strategic leader/liaison to senior development staff in the chartered associations. Conduct and/or participate in state, regional, and national staff meetings and conferences. Research, identify, and investigate new opportunities for funding from a wide variety of philanthropic and individual sources to expand and diversify the donor base and lead to overall Lung Association success.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree or graduate course work in a related field preferred. Minimum of ten years’ successful fundraising or related external sales and relationship development experience including strategy and sales plan development. Impressive track record with corporate sponsorship revenue generation and development, cause marketing, special events, individual giving as well as some familiarity with planned giving. Work experience in a national voluntary nonprofit health organization preferred. Demonstrated experience in leading and developing staff and effective cross functional team building. Ability to strategically “sell” an idea or new project internally and externally. Strong negotiation skills critical. Demonstrated success in leading, serving, and facilitating senior development staff at regional offices (charters/or chapters in another organization) in achieving and growing their donor bases and revenue streams. High energy, driven, dedicated, motivated, confident, flexible and creative. Ability to work for prolonged periods at high levels of activity; managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines and attending to details; ability to sit for more than four hours per day; reading comprehension and listening. Overnight travel estimated at approximately 30% (which will include some weekends, depending upon scheduling). Ability to travel by car and by air, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
