AmeriCorps Master Home Environmentalist Program Coordinator - Seattle
The Master Home Environmentalist program provides free healthy home assessments to residents in the city of Seattle. We strive to access those populations that are most vulnerable – low income, communities of color and immigrant populations. We believe that a safe and healthy home is vital for health and that residents have a right to know of the hazards in their home that could be making their families and especially their children sick.
The healthy home assessment examines the home in terms of lead, asbestos, moisture and mold, poor indoor air quality, carbon monoxide, temperature, humidity, structural defects, plumbing issues, electrical and safety concerns, energy efficiency and code violations. Following a thorough assessment of the home, recommendations are made to the resident based upon their specific needs, in partnership with their ability and willingness to perform the suggested changes.
The AmeriCorps member will perform healthy home assessments, attend and lead educational events and presentations, and assist in recruiting and leading a volunteer training as well as managing existing volunteers. The volunteer training is a crucial part of the program, as it expands our service area beyond the City of Seattle, and keeps our returning volunteers informed and updated.
This position is contingent on funding and is fulfilled through AmeriCorps and Washington Service Corps. As such, AmeriCorps members are not employees of American Lung Association and are not eligible for pay or benefits from American Lung Association.
