The American Lung Association has a great opportunity for a Program Specialist, Tobacco Control to join our incredible team in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Working as a member Program / Mission Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission:  to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy. 

In this role, the Program Specialist will work under the Tobacco Control grant through the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania.


  • Provide support services to Tobacco Control Team Staff and aide in accomplishing grant deliverables.
  • Assist with data entry, ordering, mailing, meeting, and conference logistics and preparations, and take meeting minutes.
  • Excel in coalition member relations, establish and maintain community partnerships; assist in coalition development and training; and ensure goals and objectives as designated in the grants are achieved.
  • Respond to community requests including health fairs and individuals seeking tobacco cessation programs as well as executing membership data entry and website content submissions for all regions statewide.
  • Management of Freedom From Smoking Program support including promoting clinics on; submitting monthly newsletter information for seven states; manage FFS Facilitator List Serv, ROI Records; manage FFS Facilitator training needs.
  • Provide support services to the Tobacco Control Team Staff and aid in accomplishing grant deliverables.
  • Excel in coalition member relations, establish and maintain community partnerships; assist in coalition development and training; and ensure goals and objectives as designated in the grants are achieved.
  • Provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities assigned. Support grant writing efforts.
  • Support Development, Advocacy and Research initiatives of the Association.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration or related field or equivalent combination nof education and work experience.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral. Exceptional organizational and administrative skills.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in business administration, finance, or related field.
  • Knowledge of subcontracting, budget management and grant invoicing.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Required to travel for meetings and conferences as required by the grant.
  • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs. when assisting with local events.
  • Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and respond to inquiries in a timely manner is essential.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required.  Must have a valid Driver’s license.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
