While contagious, TB is not easily spread from person to person. Healthy individuals may contract latent TB, but the disease may not become active until months or years later.

Tuberculosis Symptoms and Diagnosis

A person with latent, or inactive, TB will have no symptoms until the disease becomes active. If that does happen, things can escalate quickly. That is why, if you think you have been exposed to TB, your need to get a TB test.

Treating and Managing Tuberculosis

If it is not treated, TB can be fatal. But TB can almost always be treated and cured if you take medicine as directed by your healthcare provider.

If you are concerned about TB, make a note of your symptoms and a list of questions before your visit. It can also be helpful to take along a trusted family member or friend to offer support.
